The WNBA seems to be having its moment in 2024, as seen by record attendance and viewership numbers this season; ground-breaking new avenues are driving more interest than ever.
Three players are tied as the highest-paid WNBA shooting guards at $241.9K. Arike Ogunbowale of the Wing, Kahleah Copper of the Mercury, and Jewell Loyd of the Storm take the top spot.
Ogunbowale signed a 3-year extension worth $725.9K with Dallas in 2022. She was their fifth overall pick in the 2019 draft. She’s second in the league in scoring this season at 31 points per game.
Copper signed a 2-year, $490K contract extension with Chicago in 2023. She was traded this February to Phoenix for two players and two first and second-round picks. Copper won 2021 Finals MVP as she led the Sky to their first WNBA title.
Jewell Loyd signed a contract extension worth $491K with Seattle at the end of the 2023 season. She’s earned $821.5K over her eight-year career. Loyd is a five-time All-Star who won the 2023 All-Star game MVP.
Coming in fourth is the Mercury’s Diana Taurasi, who makes $234.9K annually in Phoenix. Taurasi has spent her entire 20-year career with the Mercury. She’s earned $1.15 million in her time there and won three WNBA titles.
Rounding out the top five is Kelsey Mitchell, earning $212K. Mitchell signed a 3-year, $618K contract extension in 2021. She was drafted second overall in the 2018 draft and earned $58K annually on her rookie deal.
The Mercury lead all teams with four shooting guards featured among the league’s highest-paid.
Sophie Cunningham, ranked 17th on the list, earns $87.4K less than her Phoenix teammate Kahleah Copper at number one.
