XFL Announces All 8 Coaching Hires for 2023 Season

  • Former NFL head coaches Wade Phillips and Jim Haslett highlight the list.
  • Dany Garcia, Dwayne Johnson, and investment firm RedBird Capital acquired the league for $15 million in August 2020
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The XFL is continuing to take shape ahead of its 2023 campaign.

League owners Dany Garcia and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson announced the coaches for all eight of their league’s teams Wednesday morning on ESPN. The league did not announce any team-coach pairings.

Wade Phillips and Jim Haslett are the only former NFL head coaches on the list. Former Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops — who coached the Dallas Renegades in the XFL’s previous iteration — is returning to the league.

Former NFL players Terrell Buckley, Hines Ward, Rod Woodson, Reggie Barlow, and Anthony Becht round out the list.

Garcia, Johnson, and investment firm RedBird Capital acquired the league for $15 million in August 2020 after the last version of the league went into bankruptcy.

Recently, the XFL made headlines when media and commerce firm Togethxr issued a cease-and-desist to the league, claiming the former’s newly unveiled logo and branding is too similar.
