Federal prosecutors alleged Thursday that Heat guard Terry Rozier and former NBA player and coach Damon Jones were key cogs in a scheme funneling inside information to gamblers in an illegal plot netting millions of dollars.
FBI director Kash Patel called it “the insider trading saga for the NBA” at a press conference in Brooklyn on Thursday morning.
The indictment alleges, among other things, that Jones bet using inside information about a player who would miss games with an injury while on the Lakers. The player is not named in the indictment but is clearly LeBron James: “a prominent NBA player” on the Lakers in 2022–23 while Jones was “an unofficial assistant coach” for the team.
Representatives for James and the Lakers declined to comment. You can read the entire 23-page indictment below.
