Knowing your Target Audience can Make or Break a Brand

With so many platforms, a target audience is critical to the success of a team or organization’s brand. Not knowing your target audience can be detrimental to a marketing strategy, it can lose followers and engagement. Social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat all have different target audiences as well. Don’t believe us? We have the facts below.

Facebook

The monthly activity: 1.44 billion monthly active users. 
Women are more active on their Facebook accounts.
The age range of 18–24 years old is the largest demographic.

Twitter

313 million active users
82% of users are active on mobile
Men are more active on Twitter than women
37% of Twitter users are aged from 18–29

Instagram

500 million users
55% of 18–29 year olds use Instagram
80 million photos are shared daily on Instagram

Snapchat

7/10 users are millenials
85% of users are between the ages of 13–34 years old
57 million users in America use Snapchat.

Why Is this Important?

Take a look at the numbers above, these social platforms target different demographics and vary from age to gender to mobility vs no mobility. Posting a message on your social media platforms could be interpreted differently from a 35 year old woman compared to a 18 year old male. You wouldn’t publish content on Snapchat and then publish the same thing on Facebook. Those are two totally different platforms

Each brand is different when it comes to their target Audience and most of these platforms offer insights to help you reach your audience.


Let’s take a look at the audience insights that Facebook Provides. For this set of data 82% of this brand’s audience are males. And 35.7% of those fans are in the age range from 18–24. When creating content, it is important to keep these stats in mind so the voice appeals to your target audience.


Twitter analytics also provide gender and age specific information. Twitter compared to Facebook is traditionally shorter bits of information that is more published in real time. With the data above, we know that the target audience for this account is directed towards males from the ages of 25 to 34. Comparing that to another set of data below, you would know to create a different copy for a brand that has an audience that is 67% female. Males and females interpret information differently.


Remember, these insights are at your fingertips, they aren’t hard to find. Collect this data, utilize this data and it can be highly beneficial to your brand.
