Jameis Winston will be back with Fox Sports this weekend, appearing on both Sunday NFL pregame shows, the network confirmed to Front Office Sports.
Winston is available for the in-season media work because the Giants are on a bye. Earlier this year, he drew acclaim for his work on the Fox Sports Digital team during Super Bowl week in New Orleans.
In one viral moment, he asked Eagles running back Saquon Barkley which team would sign him (Winston) in free agency this offseason.
“I think New York needs a quarterback right now,” Barkley, famously a former Giant, answered. (Winston did ultimately sign with the Giants in March as a free agent.)
Of the two Giants quarterbacks working in media this week—Russell Wilson has also been tabbed as an analyst for CBS—Winston is seen as more charismatic.
It is relatively common for active players to have quasi-auditions for media roles during off time. Rams QB Matthew Stafford worked as a studio analyst for Fox during a bye week last year, and Matt Hasselbeck worked as a game analyst in 2014 when he was a quarterback for the Colts. 49ers linebacker Fred Warner appeared on ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown during Wild Card weekend last year.
Winston has primarily been a backup since leaving the Bucs in 2020. He made two starts for the Giants this year after making seven for the Browns last season.
