Several gamers got the deal of a lifetime due to a pricing error — and the video game publisher is going to honor it.
EA Sports was mistakenly offering pre-purchases of the “FIFA 23” Ultimate Edition for 4.8 Indian rupees — the equivalent of about $0.06 in U.S. dollars — on India’s Epic Games Store.
Moreover, players outside of India were able to take advantage of the deal by changing their local store to India and then buying the pre-purchase.
Recognizing it was their own mistake, EA Sports is going to honor those purchases and allow those who got the erroneous price to download the game when it officially releases on September 30.
“A few weeks back, we scored a pretty spectacular own-goal when we inadvertently offered FIFA 23 pre-purchase on the Epic Games Store at an incorrect price,” the company wrote in an email to the buyers. “It was our mistake, and we wanted to let you know that we’ll be honoring all pre-purchases made at that price.”
FIFA 23 will notably be the final edition of the game under EA Sports’ exclusive partnership with the soccer federation.
The franchise is set to be renamed “EA Sports FC,” and will feature a large majority of the world’s leagues and teams under individually negotiated licenses.
