The NFL has suspended Steelers wideout DK Metcalf for two games for swinging at a fan in Detroit during a Pittsburgh win on Sunday.
During the first half of the game, CBS cameras captured Metcalf in an apparent altercation with a Lions fan, in which Metcalf swung at and appeared to connect with the fan.
A source close to Metcalf alleged to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero that the fan said something derogatory about his mother and used a racial epithet. Metcalf had previously reported the same fan to NFL security while he was a member of the Seahawks.
The Lions fan said his name was Ryan Kennedy and told the Detroit News via his lawyer that he “categorically denies using the ‘N-word,’ the ‘C-word,’ or any racial, misogynistic, or hate-based slur” in the lead-up to the incident.
Metcalf finished out Sunday’s game against the Lions.
Metcalf plans to appeal the suspension, according to multiple reports. If the suspension is upheld, Metcalf would miss games against the Browns and Ravens, and miss out on nearly $556,000 in salary.
This season, Metcalf has 59 catches for 850 yards and six touchdowns.
