BODYARMOR is continuing its commitment to Kobe Bryant’s family and its related causes.
On Tuesday, founder Mike Repole announced his sports drink company will donate $24 million to the Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation — the single largest donation in the foundation’s history.
In addition to the monetary contribution, BODYARMOR will be donating 10 refurbished basketball courts and renovated youth clinic facilities to the foundation. The new courts will be in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Miami, Phoenix, and Detroit.
It will also release a new “Mamba Forever” flavor to its product line.
Bryant was one of the earliest investors in the company, acquiring 10% for $6 million in 2014. Since Coca-Cola bought full control of the brand for $5.6 billion in November, his stake has surpassed $400 million.
His widow, Vanessa, still sits on the company’s board of directors.
The Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation’s mission is to generate a “positive impact for underserved athletes and boys and girls in sports.”
