The home of Memphis Tigers football is in line to get a major facelift.

The University of Memphis and the City of Memphis announced Thursday plans to pursue a $150-200 million renovation to Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium to “revitalize and modernize” the facility.

Elements of the project to enhance the home of the annual Liberty Bowl include a transformation of the west side of the stadium to provide premium seating, a hospitality space within the halo deck, family boxes on the north end, and a party deck patio for students on the south end.

“The commitment to greatly enhance the home of Tiger Football is a significant step toward realizing our potential as we position ourselves to succeed at the highest level of collegiate athletics,” University of Memphis President Dr. Bill Hardgrave said in a statement.

Officials said the goal for completion of the project is prior to the 2025 football season.

The Tigers finished 6-6 in 2021 and were set to make their eighth consecutive bowl appearance before the Hawaii Bowl was canceled.
