Super Bowl LIX is expected to be massive in every way when the Chiefs and Eagles meet for a rematch in the biggest game in North American pro sports.

Amongst the tens of thousands at Caesars Superdome will be the first sitting U.S. president to attend, Taylor Swift, and Kendrick Lamar. You can also expect to see lots of Pennsylvanians, as data shows from TickPick, a leading North American ticket marketplace.

But no ticket records will be set in New Orleans. Despite the high stakes, the history on the line, and the anticipation, prices are bucking a steady trend since 2014. This week, Front Office Sports takes you through the biggest ticketing storylines—past and present—for the Super Bowl.

Super Bowl LIX: Eagles vs Chiefs

Championship Rematch

For the seventh year in a row, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs reached the AFC championship, and for the third straight year they advanced to the Super Bowl, where they can now become the first team to win three in a row.

Jalen Hurts is seeking his first Lombardi Trophy after leading the Eagles to their second title game in three years. Their previous trip? A 38–25 loss to Kansas City.

With revenge on the line, and one of the most star-powered matchups in recent memory, this year’s Super Bowl is not even the most expensive on record, according to TickPick. Its $6,838 average purchase price is 33% cheaper than last year’s Big Game ($9,136), and only the third-most-expensive Super Bowl.

The Superstar Effect

Even as the current face of the NFL, Patrick Mahomes has a tough act to follow in Tom Brady. The longtime Patriot is a seven-time champion and five-time Super Bowl MVP. Compare that to Mahomes’s résumé: three titles, three SB MVPs.

But Mahomes has already bested Brady in driving ticket demand. The two quarterbacks have combined for nine Super Bowl appearances since 2015, including when the Buccaneers beat the Chiefs in 2021. But the Kansas City superstar owns the most expensive spot.

The Numbers in NOLA

This year’s Super Bowl may be only the third most expensive, but it still reigns supreme for New Orleans. Based on average purchase price, Eagles-Chiefs is the most expensive event—by more than $4,000—among all events on record in the birthplace of jazz. That includes the shows put on by the famous pop star in attendance.
