The Faces Behind FOS: Austin Weaver

As the summer winds down, we decided to showcase the many faces behind FOS, what they do outside of the site and what their career aspirations are! Today you get to meet Austin Weaver, our PR Specialist!

What is your current role/year in school outside of FOS?

Currently a 1st year Law Student at the University of Iowa, Director of Marketing and Promotions with the Edenton Steamers.

What is your current role for FOS and how long have you been doing that?

Public Relations Specialist- 4 months, started in May.

What drew you to FOS in the beginning and why do you think it is important for students and young professionals to know that this resource is out there?

I was initially drawn to Front Office Sports because coming from a small school, we didn’t have sports management programs and we didn’t have professors that had worked in the industry. FOS was a resource that helped connect me to industry leaders I wouldn’t have been available to me previously.

Favorite professional sports team? Favorite venue that you have been too?

Favorite Sports team- St. Louis Cardinals

Favorite Venue I’ve been to- Wrigley Field

Career aspirations and goals?

Work in player personnel or team operations, and play a part in building championship teams.

Words of wisdom?

People in the sports industry will help you if you take the time to thoughtfully ask for help/advice. Don’t be timid, but be respectful and more likely than not someone will offer his or her time.

By this time next year I see myself…..

Interning with a professional sports franchise in team operations or player personnel.

We would like to thank Austin for all of his hard work and dedication to FOS!
