Report: Texas Spends $630K On Two Recruiting Weekends

  • During two weekends in June, Texas reportedly spent close to $630,000 on recruiting visits.
  • In total, 23 recruits received luxury accommodations — 16 of which have already committed.

The Texas Longhorns are dropping mid-six figures on recruiting trips for top football prospects.

During two weekends in June, the athletic department spent close to $630,000 on recruiting visits, according to The Athletic.

In total, 23 recruits received luxury accommodations — 16 of which have already committed. One of the commits: Top prospect Arch Manning, who announced he had committed to Texas shortly after his official recruiting visit.

The first weekend, which Manning attended, racked up almost $280,000 in expenses for the department. The second weekend racked up close to $350,000.

The news is unsurprising, given that top Power 5 programs are spending more than ever on a recruiting arms race that includes not only lavish facilities but also name, image, and likeness deals.

After all, Texas — and many other schools — have even more revenue to look forward to when future media contracts begin. Their spending habits are likely to only increase.
