Nick Kyrgios Eyes $2.5M Wimbledon Title Despite Controversy, Fines

  • He’s racked up $9.9 million in earnings across his career but $544,000 in fines.

After Rafael Nadal’s withdrawal, Nick Kyrgios advanced to the Wimbledon men’s final, his first in a Grand Slam.

If he gets through the winner of Novak Djokovic-Cameron Norrie, the Australian would take home $2.5 million in prize money.

Though he’s racked up $9.9 million in earnings across his career, the divisive figure has cost himself a small fortune in fines.

  • He’s accumulated $544,000 in fines in his career.
  • The 27-year-old has been fined twice at this edition of Wimbledon — for spitting toward a fan ($10,000) and for an “audible obscenity” ($4,000).

Kyrgios’ troubles are not limited to the tennis court: This week, he was summoned to an Australian judiciary for allegedly assaulting an ex-girlfriend.

His talent has never been in question: He holds the distinction of being one of only three players to defeat all of the Big Three (Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer) on his first attempt playing each.

Should the World No. 40 win his first major — and career title No. 7 — he’ll continue a hot streak that includes his first Grand Slam doubles title with Thanasi Kokkinakis at the Australian Open in January.

Entering Wimbledon, Kyrgios had earned $591,859 in prize money in 2022.
