NASCAR to Hold First-Ever Cup Series Street Circuit Race in Chicago

  • The race will be held in downtown Chicago on July 2.
  • The course was developed on the iRacing simulation platform.
Amy Kontras-USA TODAY Sports

NASCAR has reached a minimum three-year deal to hold a race in Chicago starting in 2023, marking the organization’s first-ever street circuit race for the Cup Series.

The race will be held in downtown Chicago on July 2.

The July 4 weekend event will also feature a IMSA SportsCar race — a NASCAR-owned championship — the day before the Cup.

Chicago landmarks in the race’s proposed 2.2 mile street circuit include Soldier Field, Grant Park, and Buckingham Fountain.

The course was developed on the iRacing simulation platform and used in the eNASCAR Pro Invitational Series in 2021.

The event is part of the company’s plan to expand its reach with a more robust schedule that also allows flexibility. NASCAR will also cater to fans through entertainment and music as it aims to attract 100,000 people throughout the weekend.
