In December, former Oregon football coach Mario Cristobal inked a reported 10-year, $80 million contract with the University of Miami. The contract makes him one of the highest-paid coaches in all of college football.

Now, he has a mansion to match.

The Canes’ coach reportedly bought the $7.9 million mansion near Coral Gables — an 8,800-square-foot enclave that includes a gym, a pool, a courtyard, and eight bathrooms. Cristobal’s neighbors will include Jimmy Butler and Alex Rodriguez.

Cristobal’s contract — and the lavish lifestyle that accompanies it — did not come without controversy, however.

In January, U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-N.J.) launched an investigation into whether several Power 5 athletic departments had violated their nonprofit status by offering extravagant salaries to football and men’s basketball coaches.

Miami’s contract with Cristobal was one of the first named in the probe. It’s unclear, however, how much power the probe actually holds, one expert previously told Front Office Sports.
