Malik Beasley Being Investigated in NBA Gambling Probe

ESPN reports that a sportsbook detected unusually heavy betting interest on Beasley’s statistics beginning around January 2024.

Pistons guard Malik Beasley is reportedly being investigated by the U.S. District Attorney’s office for gambling-related allegations involving NBA games. Such claims, if proven, could lead to his lifetime expulsion from the league, as was the case with former Raptor Jontay Porter. Beasley, one of the league’s best three-point shooters, is a far more impactful player than Porter was.

ESPN reports the allegations involve games during the 2023-24 NBA season, and that “at least one prominent U.S. sportsbook detected unusually heavy betting interest on Beasley’s statistics beginning around January 2024.”

Beasley’s attorney, Steve Haney, told ESPN, “An investigation is not a charge. Malik is afforded the same right of the presumption of innocence as anyone else under the U.S. Constitution. As of now he has not been charged with anything.”

The 28-year-old averaged 16.3 points per game last season while making the second-most three-pointers in the NBA, behind only Anthony Edwards. He has earned $59.9 million in his NBA career.
