Kansas Is Spending ‘Hundreds of Millions’ On FB Facilities

The day before they’re featured on ESPN’s “College GameDay,” the undefeated Kansas Jayhawks announced a significant investment into campus football facilities.

The crux of the plan, called the “11th and Mississippi Project,” includes “major renovations” to the century-old David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, including seating amenities and event spaces. The Anderson Family Football Complex will also receive improvements.

The school’s stated goal is to “create a world-class experience for fans while providing Kansas Football the facilities it needs to compete at the highest level.” It will begin construction next spring.

The project will cost hundreds of millions, according to an ESPN report, though Kansas assured fans the money will come from several revenue streams: ticket sales, donors, and “economic development funds.”

But the program claims the price tag is worth it — not just to improve the football program, but also to bring in more revenue for the local economy.

“Now, more than ever, college athletics — and certainly sustained success in the sport of football — are critical to the health and vibrancy of our entire university community,” athletic director Travis Goff said in a statement.
