Golf tournaments are increasingly offering well-heeled customers the chance to go inside-the-ropes – for a premium price.
Greg Norman’s new LIV Golf Invitational Series, the latest example, is selling a “Club 54 Premium” hospitality package that “will allow patrons to walk inside the ropes with players and caddies and watch as the winner lifts the trophy from front-row seating.”
The price for LIV’s upcoming London tournament from June 9-11? Try $10,455 for a two-day pass.
Norman’s price for the chance to potentially walk the fairways with golf stars like Phil Mickelson or Sergio Garcia is not out of line compared with elite hospitality packages on the PGA Tour.
The 2021 BMW Championship offered an “Inside the Ropes Experience” that allowed two “Honorary Observers” to walk the course with a predetermined player group.
Ticket-holders were invited to pick the day and tee time, and their names were announced by the starter on the first tee. Price: $7,500.
“Honorary Observer groups provide an incredible opportunity to get closer to the action than ever before,” said the tournament website. “Walk step-for-step with the best players in the world, listen in as they discuss strategy with their caddies, and celebrate every great shot witnessed from inside the ropes.”
