FIFA Seeking Up to $2 Billion Investment to Expand Streaming

  • FIFA has hired UBS to help find investors.
  • FIFA is still looking for a broadcast partner for the 2025 Club World Cup.
Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

FIFA is seeking to upgrade its streaming situation.

The governing body of international soccer is trying to raise as much as $2 billion to grow FIFA+, according to Bloomberg

When the free streaming service was launched two years ago, FIFA said it would stream 40,000 games per year, with at least one-quarter of those being women’s matches.

Bloomberg reported FIFA is working with the bank UBS to raise the money for a minority stake.

FIFA+ is currently streaming the Oceania Football Confederation Tournament, which will feature a New Zealand–Vanuatu final Saturday. The TV rights for the Euros and the Copa América have largely been sold around the world.

The streaming expansion is the latest broadcast deal FIFA is seeking after it halted talks with Apple to broadcast its Club World Cup, which is scheduled to debut its 32-team version in 2025. The previous Club World Cup, which featured just seven teams, was streamed on FIFA+.
