Chase Daniel has quickly found a new broadcasting home.
The former longtime NFL quarterback is joining ESPN as a college football color commentator, the network confirmed exclusively to Front Office Sports. Play-by-play announcer Clay Matvick, who has been with ESPN for nearly 20 years, will be Daniel’s broadcast partner. Their first game will be Duquesne at Pittsburgh on Aug. 30.
There is optimism amongst ESPN’s producers behind the scenes that Daniel will be a high-level analyst, one source said. Daniel will also work for the network as an NFL studio analyst.
Daniel spent most of the past year as a co-host of The Facility on FS1, which was canceled along with Speak and Breakfast Ball earlier this summer. He was previously a studio analyst for NFL Network. Daniel also co-hosts the “Scoop City” podcast for The Athletic with Dianna Russini and James Palmer.
Daniel starred at Mizzou and had a 13-year NFL career, mostly as a backup, with the Saints, Chiefs, Eagles, Bears, Lions, and Chargers. He earned $43.1 million as a player, according to Over the Cap. He made five career NFL starts and was last on a professional roster in 2022.
