Lionel Messi, Logan Paul Resolve Beverage Dispute

The maker of Más+ by Messi sued Prime in 2024 claiming “anticompetitive” behavior. Prime countersued on trademark infringement claims.

A lawsuit and countersuit involving the beverage brands for soccer legend Lionel Messi and WWE star and influencer Logan Paul have been dropped.

The situation stems back to 2024, when Mark Anthony Brands International launched Más+ by Messi (Mark Anthony Brands also makes Mike’s Hard Lemonade and White Claw). The drink’s bottle bore resemblance to Prime, an energy drink co-created by Logan Paul. KSI, a fellow Prime co-creator, immediately tweeted “Looks familiar…” in response to the announcement of Más+.

While Prime threatened to sue for months, it was Mark Anthony that dealt the first legal blow. It filed a lawsuit against Prime Hydration claiming “anticompetitive efforts to monopolize functional design features that are commonplace in the hydration beverage industry.”

Prime Hydration subsequently countersued, arguing that it had been careful to design its bottle distinctly from competitors like Vitamin Water, Body Armor, and Gatorade. Prime also claimed that Más+ used the same designs, colors, and bottle caps—appearing to come from the same manufacturer—and that even the slogan was a ripoff. Prime’s slogan was “Refresh, Replenish, Refuel” and Más+ went with “Replenish Refresh Revive.”

A spokesperson for Mark Anthony told Front Office Sports, “The Mark Anthony Group can confirm that both parties have reached a mutually agreeable resolution to the litigation.” Attorneys for Prime did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

News of the settlement between the beverage brands was first reported by Bloomberg Law.
