The sports and cryptocurrency worlds have begun to collide in unprecedented ways.

English Premier League side Wolverhampton and global cryptocurrency exchange platform CoinDeal have made sports history in recent days, with the two parties entering into the first sponsorship agreement between entities of their kind.

Included in the sponsorship is CoinDeal’s logo on the Wolves’ jersey sleeves, as well as a prominent place on the team’s training/practice gear. CoinDeal will also receive signage within Molineux Stadium (Wolverhampton’s home ground) as well as on the LED’s surrounding the actual pitch and on the team’s bench.

For CoinDeal co-founder Kajetan Maćkowiak, the situation seems like a natural fit.

“I have always had a passion for the world of sports and its impact on consumers,” Maćkowiak said. “At CoinDeal we are very aware of the impact that football marketing can have on brand and its community, especially in an industry such as ours. We believe that a club like Wolverhampton Wanderers will help portray our message globally. It is an incredibly exciting time to be involved with Wolves, on the eve of their return to the English Premier League and we look forward to supporting them to ensure they continue their incredible performance levels both on and off the pitch.”

CoinDeal was founded in March of 2018 and offers “fast, safe, and easy” cryptocurrency exchanges. Specifically, CoinDeal offers trading in BTC, BCH, ETH, LTC, DASH, and QTUM, while offering two fiat currencies — EUR and USD. The company is based in Poland with offices in Switzerland and Cyprus, as well.

Wolverhampton managing director Laurie Dalrymple echoed CoinDeal’s excitement as the team and the brand work together for this innovative sponsorship.

“We are absolutely thrilled to partner with CoinDeal at such an exciting time in Wolves’ history, and very pleased to announce our very first shirt sleeve sponsor,” Dalrymple said. “CoinDeal is a bold and progressive company, who we believe to be an ideal match to become one of our principal partners, and we look forward to working with them throughout our first season back in the Premier League.”

On top of being the first cryptocurrency-related sponsorship in sport, another interesting aspect of this sponsorship is that CoinDeal will be slightly altering the color of their logo used on the shirt sleeve in order to better compliment the team’s colors. This gesture earned the gratitude of Wolverhampton executives, who expressed that it indicated goodwill toward the Wolves and their fans.

Moving forward, it will be especially interesting to see how this move alters the relationship between the sports world and the cryptocurrency world. Executives from the exchange and blockchain world could see new opportunities in the space and sport executives could see a chance to build strong relationships with a billion dollar industry.

For CoinDeal, they certainly picked a strong way to make an entrance. The Wolves are reentering the Premier League for the first time since 2011. The club’s audience includes over 304,000 Twitter followers, 355,000 Facebook followers, 89,300 Instagram followers, and an average home attendance of over 28,000. That’s not including impressions at away games against opponents like Manchester United, who average well over 70,000 for games at Old Trafford.

Wolverhampton begins Premier League play on Saturday, August 11 at home against Everton.

No question, the cryptocurrency world will have one eye on the Wolves this season to see how this sponsorship plays out.
