For Me, 7 Months has Made a World of Difference

By: Joseph Londergan, @joehio_

Two years. Two years since a brave man named Adam White took it upon himself to end this realm’s dire drought of professional resources for sports professionals…

Sorry. Got a little dramatic there. It’s the script writer in me.

In all seriousness, I’ve been with FOS for about seven months and every second has been a blast. For one, I’ve had the opportunity to connect with and learn from a number of industry professionals that I never would have had the pleasure of meeting otherwise. Each and every one of these people has been courteous and insightful, the latter of which I hope our readers can appreciate as much as I have. Working in sports myself, interviewing and writing these pieces has been therapeutic for me in a way. As I’ve come across things about work, graduate school, and life that I’ve been curious about or had some difficulty with, I’ve had the chance to speak with these people who have been there before, in most cases. Hopefully, being featured on our site has helped folks in some way or at least made their day a little better. It certainly has done that for me.

Second, while I’m only twenty three, I have been in the sports workforce in a few different capacities for close to a decade. Sometimes, it has a way of making people cynical, ego crazed, or just burnt out. I can tell when people are phoning it in. That’s not the case with any of the men and women involved in this. We’re all genuinely excited for each other’s successes, we like learning from each other’s writing style, and while we work apart all over the country, we get very excited when we do get the chance to connect and collaborate in person. It’s a passion project in every sense of the term.

A coach of mine once told me that being successful in sports (and life, now that I think about it) are about two things: having fun and learning something new every chance you get. This site has given us the opportunity to do that through our writing and connection opportunities.

If you read us regularly, I hope you’ve learned something new every day and had fun doing it. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your interest in what we do.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I took time out of playing Pokemon Go to jot this down and there’s a Clefairy on my porch. Peace.
