49ers’ Record 38,000-Mile Season Schedule Includes Mexico, Australia

Two international games and a pair of East Coast road trips will have the 49ers racking up their frequent flyer miles during the 2026 NFL season.

The 2026 NFL season will be a world tour for the 49ers.

San Francisco will host a regular-season game in Mexico City this fall, the league announced Wednesday, in addition to a previously announced trip to Melbourne, Australia, to face the Rams as the designated away team.

The 49ers will become the first NFL team to play two international games on different continents in the same season, and just the second to play in two different countries after the Vikings played in Ireland and England last year. The Jaguars are the only other NFL franchise to play multiple games abroad in one season; in both cases, the games were in London.

Beyond the global travel, the 49ers also have two East Coast road trips on tap in 2026: away games against the Falcons in Atlanta and the Giants in New York.

Altogether, the 49ers will travel roughly 38,000 round-trip miles for their eight road games and home game in Mexico. That would be the most ever for an NFL team, after the Chargers and Rams both topped 37,000 miles in 2025.

No game dates have been released yet, as the 2026 NFL regular-season schedule will be released in May.

Going Global

With the 49ers-Mexico City news, there are now five confirmed hosts for the NFL’s record nine-game international slate next season.

  • London (Wembley Stadium): Jaguars
  • London (Tottenham Hotspur Stadium 2x): TBD
  • Madrid: TBD
  • Melbourne: Rams
  • Mexico City: 49ers
  • Munich: TBD
  • Paris: Saints
  • Rio de Janeiro: Cowboys

The 49ers-Rams game in Australia is the only one so far with a confirmed away team.
