33rd Team Cuts Staff; Scaling Back Site to Focus on NFL Consulting, Tech

The 33rd Team is scaling back its website to focus on NFL data, technology, and team consulting, a source told Front Office Sports.

A number of jobs at the NFL-focused website The 33rd Team are being eliminated as the company will center its resources on other aspects of the business, Front Office Sports has confirmed.

About 8-10 employees who work on the website will not have their contracts renewed, one source said. Writer Dan Pizzuta announced on Sunday that he was one of them. Ian Kenyon, Tyler Brooke, James Foster, Marcus Mosher, and Kyle Crabbs did the same by Monday afternoon. The site may still exist in some capacity, and could be paywalled in the future, a source close to the situation said.

33rd Team was founded by former Jets general manager turned ESPN analyst Mike Tannenbaum in 2019. Tannenbaum declined to comment for this story. Investors in 33rd Team include Gross Labs, Liberty Media, SiriusXM, the Atlanta Braves, and The Baupost Group, according to Pitchbook

The other areas of the 33rd Team business include data, technology, and consulting. On the latter front, the Jets enlisted the company—including Tannenbaum and ex-Vikings GM Rick Spielman—in November to help with their coach and GM search after Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas were fired.
