Future of Sports: Sea Change in College Sports
About The Event
Last year represented a transformational shift in the landscape of college athletics. The SEC and Big Ten added several new members; the Pac-12 shrank to two schools, then began rebuilding; the NIL landscape got even wilder; and we saw the first 12-team College Football Playoff. What impact have we seen so far? What’s on the horizon?
As we look forward to March Madness, we will sit down with leaders from various conferences as well as power players in NIL, and hear directly from athletic departments.
Agenda
NIL Mania
Now in their “senior” year, NIL (name, image, and likeness) rights have completely upended college sports recruitment. Schools have established collectives that encourage the support of NIL and their college athletes. But the era has included many fumbles and controversies, from the NCAA nixing QR codes encouraging donations on Oklahoma State’s football helmets to UNLV’s quarterback leaving mid-season citing a $100,000 unfulfilled promise. Where do we draw the line with NIL? What’s next?
The New Conference Order
Last year unveiled a new world order in college athletics. The SEC, Big Ten, and ACC look dramatically different; realignment has established new rivalries, upended travel schedules; and had serious influence on media rights. This panel will discuss how to navigate the new normal.
The New Rules of Recruiting
The NCAA has loosened transfer portal rules and changed the process for letters of intent, moves that have huge implications for athletic departments and athletes looking to capitalize on their collegiate careers.
