Ben Horney Joins Front Office Sports As Deals Reporter

Veteran M&A journalist will cover private equity, finance, and ownership and lead Asset Class franchise.

NEW YORK — Front Office Sports, the leading multiplatform media and news organization covering the business of sports, today announced the addition of Ben Horney as FOS expands its dedicated coverage of private equity and new investment in sports. He will lead this coverage under Asset Class, FOS’s new franchise dedicated to sports finance, investment, and transaction activities.

Horney comes to FOS after 12 years at Law360, most recently as assistant managing editor overseeing sports betting, mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, and private equity. He was previously a senior reporter there and wrote nearly 5,000 stories.

Prior to Law360, Horney wrote for numerous outlets, including Yahoo Sports, NBA.com, and the Times Beacon Record. He earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from SUNY New Paltz.

“New capital flooding into sports at every level is redefining the landscape, with everyone from PE firms to sovereign wealth funds to athletes and celebrities vying for a piece,” said FOS editor-in-chief Dan Roberts. “Ben is joining FOS to zoom in on this crucial beat through breaking news and analysis on our site, on-camera reporting, and in the dedicated franchise he’ll launch.”

“My experience at Law360 was invaluable, and now I couldn’t be more excited to dive back into daily reporting with the outstanding team at Front Office Sports. I aim to pull back the curtain on the most significant deals in sports—team sales, big-money transactions, betting, legal disputes, and everything in between—and explain it all for our readers,” said Horney.

Asset Class is Front Office Sports’ second vertical-specific franchise, joining Tuned In, and will debut with a biweekly newsletter this spring.
