Notable Features

    Methodology

The most sustainable sports organizations are leveraging their reach, influence, and resources to safeguard the planet. They’re the industry leaders innovating with urgency, and going beyond just reducing their environmental footprints, devising unique and inspiring programs to help restore Earth – its climate, ecosystems, and biodiversity.

To honor these organizations, Front Office Sports and Sports Innovation Lab teamed up to identify this year’s 10 ‘Most Sustainable,’ those pioneering the role that the sports industry can and should play toward a more resilient planet.

Eligible organizations were teams, leagues, venues, brands, and others that either host, support, or are themselves professional, collegiate, or minor league sports teams. Applicants submitted responses to a 42-question online form between March 25th and June 16th, 2024. Form questions spanned the following six categories:

    • Carbon and greenhouse gas reduction
    • Nature restoration and preservation
    • Water conservation
    • Recycling, composting, and other waste diversion
    • Measurement of impact and goal-setting
    • Organizational structure and culture

Responses were carefully evaluated and scored, and weighted differently according to the relative relevance and potential impact of each sustainability category for each organization type. The final selection represents those organizations that have proven exceptional innovation in, and commitment to, a greener legacy for sports.
