Happy St. Patrick’s Day! This is A.J. Perez, senior reporter at Front Office Sports. Five years and two name changes ago, I began covering issues surrounding the Washington Commanders — and there have been many.

Today, we’re digging into the developments of a pair of investigations that have gained steam as Jeff Bezos, Josh Harris and Tilman Fertitta quietly go about their attempts to acquire the franchise from owner Dan Snyder.

The Washington Commanders’ sale process that began in November has been frustratingly slow for a huge slice of the team’s fan base.

The process has been shrouded in mystery due to confidentiality agreements between the serious contenders that include Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils owner Josh Harris, and Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta.

Snyder has, per Pro Football Talk, cleared out of the team’s headquarters, and he’s completing his move to London, fueling the expectation that a sale could finally be close.

But there are multiple ongoing investigations that appear set to continue after Sndyer’s decision on who will own the embattled franchise. At least one of those probes could even endure past a full ownership vote that would take place several weeks after the winning bidder is announced.

While the Virginia Attorney General’s Office is conducting one of those investigations, I will take you through what I have uncovered about the most troublesome one for the Commanders and Snyder: The league’s second outside investigation led by former SEC chief Mary Jo White, and an ongoing federal probe.
