Happy Friday! This is FOS Senior Reporter A.J. Perez. The Washington Commanders went on the market in November, and there’s finally some definitive news on who’s in line to take over the embattled franchise.

Josh Harris, who co-owns the Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Devils and Crystal Palace of the Premier League, submitted a $6.05 billion bid and a tentative agreement was reached with Commanders owner Dan Snyder.

While nothing is official, it looks like Snyder’s 24-year reign has only a few weeks left. Today, I will take you through Harris’ background, his leadership style, and how we got here.

Why Josh Harris Was The Only Option To Save The Washington Commanders

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Josh Harris was one of the first names to be linked to a potential purchase of the Washington Commanders in November when the team announced that it was “exploring all options.”

It had become clear in recent weeks that Harris was the only viable candidate for owner Dan Snyder’s price tag. Harris’ bid of $6.05 billion — along with his ability to actually come up with the capital — led to a tentative agreement to acquire the club on Thursday.

Nothing is final, and the process of transferring the team to Harris won’t begin until a winning bidder is announced, followed by a submission of the application for ownership to the NFL.

But Commanders fans began celebrating when this news circulated on Thursday.

On Friday, D.C. sports talk station 106.7 The Fan held an event at a local brewery to celebrate the end of Snyder’s run as owner — one that produced more investigations and lawsuits than playoff appearances. “Bye Dan” beer was sold for $16 for a four-pack — and while the India pale ale doesn’t suit everyone’s tastes, fans across the DMV agree with the sentiment.
