Josh Harris was one of the first names to be linked to a potential purchase of the Washington Commanders in November when the team announced that it was “exploring all options.”
It had become clear in recent weeks that Harris was the only viable candidate for owner Dan Snyder’s price tag. Harris’ bid of $6.05 billion — along with his ability to actually come up with the capital — led to a tentative agreement to acquire the club on Thursday.
Nothing is final, and the process of transferring the team to Harris won’t begin until a winning bidder is announced, followed by a submission of the application for ownership to the NFL.
But Commanders fans began celebrating when this news circulated on Thursday.
On Friday, D.C. sports talk station 106.7 The Fan held an event at a local brewery to celebrate the end of Snyder’s run as owner — one that produced more investigations and lawsuits than playoff appearances. “Bye Dan” beer was sold for $16 for a four-pack — and while the India pale ale doesn’t suit everyone’s tastes, fans across the DMV agree with the sentiment.
