Yahoo Sports has undergone a round of layoffs that included cuts of several longtime contributors, sources told Front Office Sports.
NFL reporter Charles Robinson was among those let go, sources said. Robinson had been a stalwart at the outlet for more than 20 years, spanning many different eras. Charles McDonald also announced on Bluesky that he had been laid off. McDonald joined Yahoo several years ago after previously covering the NFL for the New York Daily News, Football Outsiders, and SB Nation.
“As evidenced by the last few years, we are investing heavily in our original content and we will continue to do so as we approach the football season,” a Yahoo spokesperson told FOS. “We carefully consider all personnel decisions and sometimes need to make tough decisions to achieve our strategic goals.”
Yahoo has realigned its priorities over the past few years. It built a combat sports hub, Uncrowned, around Ariel Helwani and has emphasized NBA multimedia content with Kevin O’Connor. Within the last year, the outlet has also hired Kelly Iko and Dan Wolken, signed Ross Dellenger and Nate Tice to extensions, and added Taylor Twellman to its World Cup coverage.
In April, Yahoo Sports launched a sports business hub that includes licensed stories from outlets including FOS, Awful Announcing, and Barrett Media.
