The Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo (FWSSR), one of the world’s oldest rodeos, will draw the biggest rodeo fans from the state of Texas and beyond to the newly opened Dickies Arena this winter. The events teams of both the FWSSR and Dickies Arena face the tough task of executing 25 shows in 23 nights.

For assistance producing such an event and to add to the fan experience element of the stock show, FWSSR and Dickies Arena have partnered with Game Changer MVP

Game Changer MVP brings their signature interactive games to Dickies Arena year-round as well as for the 3 weeks of the rodeo. Fans will be able to play along with games displayed on the big screen during the event via their mobile devices. Elements like the Filter Fan Cam also bring an added element of fun to the crowds during shows. In other words, the arena’s shiny new video boards will be getting properly put through the paces for the run of the rodeo.

“We are always looking for new features to engage fans and draw them into the rodeo action on the arena floor,” says Brad Barnes, president and general manager of the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo. “Exciting innovations like Guess the Score and Turbo Trivia, will be intriguing and fun ways for rodeo spectators to learn and, hopefully, become more interested in the sport. Filter Fan Cam is a natural extension and will broaden appeal from the kiss cam that we’ve used in years past. Having Matt Coy and his team overseeing production and entertainment elements will be what pulls all these tools together for a fan experience like we’ve never had until now.”

Game Changer MVP put many of these activations to the test recently when Dickies Arena hosted college basketball games between Texas and Texas A&M as well as USC and Texas Christian with good results.

Coy and company will also assist event staff in the more technical aspects of putting on the FWSSR, including developing the run-of-show and collaborating on scripts for each day’s events. With the event operations crew at Dickies Arena still being so new, having this type of help comes in extremely handy, especially when putting on so many shows in a short amount of time.

“We’re running with a lean staff. I’m currently the only full-time member of the technology department,” admits Dickies Arena Technical Services Manager Andy Schmidt. “We’ve got a contractor who helps us with the video board elements and then a part-timer on the broadcast side. Game Changer MVP take that load off by adding expertise from producing past rodeo events and other large sporting events. They really help the rodeo understand what they can do with the technology and that eliminates most of my stress.”

These components will give rodeo fans even more reason to look forward to kicking off the year with this event. Thanks to the extra set of hands, event staff will also have something to cheer about.

The Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo will take place Jan. 17-Feb. 8, 2020.
