The Brewers won their first-ever World Series on Wednesday. The goal for 2027: to run it back. Milwaukee will return most of its core roster next season, including Cy Young favorite Jacob Misiorowski and captain Christian Yelich. The team’s high level of roster stability has propelled it to the second-best betting odds to win next year’s World Series. But MLB’s labor situation is far less stable, seeding doubt about whether the 2027 season will even start on time.

Titans Settle Into Basement

$35.3 million

That’s the average annual value of All-Pro Jeffery Simmons’s contract. On Thursday, the Titans traded the defensive tackle and a 2028 fifth-round pick to the 5–2 Bears, who are chasing the Vikings in a tough NFC North division. In exchange, the Vikings will receive first-round picks in 2027 and 2028, plus a 2027 fourth-round pick. The 29-year-old Simmons signed a three-year, $105.8 million extension during the offseason, making him one of the league’s best-paid defensive linemen.

The move indicates that 1–6 Tennessee may not be coming out of the AFC South basement anytime soon. The Titans have been unable to put a winning team on the field since 2021, even as they prepare to open a $2.1 billion stadium next year. The team fired Mike Vrabel after the 2023 season, dispatched replacement Brian Callahan in October 2025, and now faces a decision on new head coach Robert Saleh. Its former president of football operations departed in April, two days after the NFL Draft. The team has also struggled to find an identity outside the win-loss column, firing three business executives earlier this month.

“We ain’t have everybody come out at 12:30 for no reason.”

—Atlanta Dream star Angel Reese, speaking after her team’s Game 6 WNBA Finals win over the Golden State Valkyries on Thursday to force a Game 7. The Dream, led by Reese’s game-high 14 rebounds and 6 assists, stormed out to a large early lead and didn’t relinquish it. But the victory was oddly timed, as the game had to be rescheduled to accommodate the Hawks, who were scheduled to play at State Farm Arena on Thursday evening. The matinee move scrambled broadcasting plans, frustrated fans and owners of women’s sports bars, and irritated the Dream, who blamed the league for the snafu. But the team still sold out the 17,000-seat arena. Game 7—the first in WNBA history—will tip off in San Francisco on Saturday.
